Twins to Triplets to ????

Yes my duck has been actively laying eggs this week. The latest picture with seven eggs was taken this morning. I have found out that the eggs will take 28 days to incubate from the time she stops laying eggs and starts to sit on the nest regularly. So far she is still leaving the nest and seems to be adding bedding materials as well as more eggs. I have also read that a normal nest may contain as many as 12 eggs.

I think you should call the one that quacks the most "Pete"

Hi Linda, what a wonderful suprise to have a nest with all of those eggs! The biggest predators are red fox and once they get in the water, large mouth bass and even large bullfrogs will go after the little ones. Survival of the fittest I guess! Good luck and keep up with the pics. Lynette Gergich

What an opportunity for all of us to learn about duck eggs. I would have assumed that all the eggs were laid at once, incubated by the mother and hatched. Can you even imagine walking around carrying that many eggs???? Yikes...
I am looking forward to updates as warranted.
Have a great day!
