Golfing vs. Blogging

Ok I said I was going to direct more time to practicing golf and less time on the computer this summer. Since my last post I have accomplished this goal. During the last 2 weeks I have participated in 2 two day golf tournaments. June 8th and 9th was our club tournament "The Belmont Cup". It is a 2 day cumulative event that is scored by one best ball of a partnership. The key to this tournament is picking your partner. I was fortunate to be playing with a 7 handicapper that played well for the 2 days. I was steady playing right at my handicap, throwing in a few pars when I got a stroke on a hole. We were successful in winning first place. Thanks Holly, you were fun to play with.

The second event was a district tournament at Orchard Hills golf course in Bryan Ohio. This was a 2 day ringer which means you play for the 2 days and then take your best scores for each day to make up your ringer 18 holes. I played great the first day shooting an 87 and holding first place for the net division. (actual score minus handicap) I found that sleeping on a lead was not my forte. I still played well on Friday but ended up in 4th place. They say competition gets easier with practice. I am still not so sure. I am looking forward to my regular Wednesday game this week with friends and just the final score being used for handicap purposes.

Aside from golf I have been able to get a little AJ time in. We played in the backyard one day and spent time on the golf course. The bunkers are still his favorite place to run and jump and he loves riding in the golf cart with grandpa. We were at the museum this week and it may be the last time there for the summer because about 100 other kids were there too. Schools out!

This weekend is a busy one with Steve playing in the Belmont Invitational. His partner is his old fraternity brother from Cleveland so we have house guests and lots of parties to attend. And of course Sunday is fathers day. Mike will be joining us for dinner Sunday night. A special Happy Day wish to all of the fathers out there.

Signs

I haven't seen many interesting signs lately but this one is from the Toledo Zoo.

Big storms in the area last night but we were all fine in Perrysburg. Lots of rain has no carts on the golf course though so we will have to either walk or postpone play today.

The zoo and a new car

AJ and I went to the zoo last week and although it was hot we had a great time. He especially enjoyed the new Natures Neighborhood activities. Although we got to see all of the animals he wanted to see it was hard to get pictures with AJ and the animal together.

The month of May ended on a high note with a new car for Mike. He is now the proud owner of a new Kia Forte. We picked it up on Saturday morning and he is happy again. Now his challenge is finding a new apartment or a roommate.

Car is totaled

We got the word from the adjuster today and the Honda is going to be totaled. Mike will need another car soon because I am not going to be driving to BG twice a day. Mike seems okay with that and I am anxious to get him behind the wheel again. I am sure there will be some anxiety on both of our parts when he resumes driving but I also feel the sooner it happens the better. He is somewhat housebound this weekend without wheels. I offered to bring him home for the weekend but he declined, instead preferring his regular schedule of laundry and cleaning. We stopped at the store and the bank on the way home from work yesterday and so I know he has all of the provisions he needs for a weekend of TV and cleaning.

Bad day good day

Started the day on Tuesday with a phone call from Mike that he had an accident on the way to work. He slid off the wet road on a rainy morning and hit a dumpster in a junk yard. Fortunately no one was hurt and the only real damage was to Mikes car. He went to work and I dealt with the sheriff and the insurance company. We are awaiting the adjusters recommendation now. So much for Tuesday bad day.

Wednesday was a good day because I went to the Imagination Station (the old COSI) with AJ. We had so much fun playing with all of the science games. Redirecting the water was fun too but we both got pretty wet with that activity as you can see from the picture. The next picture is the activity about magnets. We build a bridge between the two large magnets with the bolts. The third picture is AJ with his BP hardhat on at the refinery activity. Unfortunately we were not able to stop the leak in the gulf but we had fun stuffing balls into a refinery pipe. We topped the morning off by visiting Steve in his office. AJ enjoyed looking at Toledo from 9 floors up.

So as I post this on Thursday morning I am hoping for a continuation of the good day on Wednesday. I definitely do not want a repeat of Tuesday for a long time. Mike continues to be fine with just a little body soreness which I expected based on the way his car impacted.

Did April forget May??

It is beginnning to seem like the months of April and May switched. Where is the warm weather? We have had rain and cold temperatures for the entire month of May. We started the spring golf season great in April but it has been downhill since. Today was the opening shamble and between the wind, cold temperatures and wet conditions from all of the rain last week it was not great golf. if global warming is truly happening it doesn't seem to be here in Northwest Ohio.
